Physiotherapy FAQs

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a drug-free, surgery-free, non-invasive treatment designed to restore movement and function caused by injury, illness, or disability. Tailored treatment, using exercise, modalities, manual therapy, and education, physiotherapists help reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent future injuries.

Why is it important to get treatment from a registered, licensed physiotherapist?

The registered, licensed physiotherapists at Cambridge Physiotherapy provide safe, effective, evidence-based care. Their qualifications and regulated training ensure expertise in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal issues to promote recovery and prevent further injury.

What conditions can be treated with physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy treats musculoskeletal issues like back pain, sports injuries, and arthritis. It also addresses neurological disorders like stroke and Parkinson’s, respiratory conditions like asthma, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Physiotherapy is especially effective in treating motor vehicle accident injuries and work-related injuries.

What should I expect during treatment?

During physiotherapy, expect an initial assessment, including movement tests and a medical history review through subjective and objective assessment and palpation. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes so the therapist can place a hand on you to stretch or release muscles or do manual therapy. Therapists also utilize machines like shockwave, ultrasound, spinal decompression, laser and IFC for pain management.

What should I expect after treatment?

After physiotherapy treatment, expect better mobility, less pain, and more strength. You’ll receive guidance on maintaining progress by doing home exercises and making lifestyle adjustments.

Is physiotherapy covered by most insurance companies?

Yes, most private extended health insurance companies, WSIB, car insurace compnaies and others cover treatments by a registered, licenced physiotherapist. All of physiotherpaist are registered with the Ontario college of Physiotherapy.
